Meeting Minutes

WELCOME:
Renae welcomed everyone to the last meeting of the year. She also introduced the speaker, Julie Wahnish, who is the coordinator of Project Night Night. Julie spoke about the urgent need for children’s blankets, stuffed animal and age appropriate books for children 12 and under. The children who come to Project Night Night are homeless. These items reduce trauma and advances the emotional and cognitive well being of the children they serve. A box will be placed on Lydia Mathis’ front porch for us to donate.
NEW AND OLD BUSINESS:
Renae thanked the women that modeled in the fashion show at Hami Boutique.
She also discussed buying another bench to be placed at Grove Park . The funds will come from the treasury of the women’s club.
A motion was made. Angelia Spraberry motioned to approve. Patty Touse seconded the motion.
TREASURY REPORT:
Phyllis Gilbert read the report.
NEW BOARD:
Renae gave the names of the new executive board submitted by the nominating committee. Renae asked for a motion to accept the new board. Joan Chandler motioned to approve. Angelia Spraberry seconded the motion. The vote passed, and Renae introduced the new board:
President - Kathy Sexton
1st Vice President - Christy Beem
2nd Vice President - Jennifer Pierce
Secretary - Patricia Gable
Treasurer - Jackie Dye
Renae made a motion to accept the new board. Joan Chandler motioned to approve. Angelia Spraberry seconded the motion.
Renae thanked Terry Crutchfield for opening her beautiful home for the meeting and presented her with a gift card.
NEW BUSINESS:
Kathy Sexton suggested bringing back the Christmas Home Tour and asked people consider having their house showcased. Two members volunteered their homes.
DOOR PRIZES:
1. Cheryl is the owner of Simply Infused Olive Oil Shop - an Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar tasting room now in its 9th year in business. She is a computer scientist turned entrepreneur having escaped Corporate America in 2014 to open her Olive oil shop initially in Mt. Laurel, but moved to Highway 280 in 2016. She now has 14 locations and partnerships in AL, MS and TN and you may have seen her at local farmers markets and special events in the Birmingham metro area. Cheryl moved from Dallas to Alabama in 1993 to be closer to family. She adopted her daughter from the Ukraine in 2001 and is a Mississippi State Bulldog fan. Please visit her tasting room located inside The Mercantile at Brook Highland, Mon-Sat, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. She delivers free to Highland Lakes.
2. Tiffany Miller, The Florist in Chelsea. She is Chelsea born and raised. Tiffany and husband Brian have 3 boys (13-15-17) . She has worked as a florist for 10 years. She has been trained in several types of floral design. Classic, modern and artistic. Her largest piece to date stood over eight feet tall and was featured at the grand opening of the Arts Council Building in Columbiana. At the Florist in Chelsea, she offers carry out and delivery services. She is happy to help with small events such as anniversaries and birthdays. She also does large events like weddings and receptions. She has had the honor of providing the florals for the Regions Tradition Golf Tournament for the past 6 years. Her work has been featured on the front page of Golf Digest and a spread in Southern Bridal. She would love to serve you and your family with any floral or gift needs.
We thank these two businesses for providing the door prizes.
